Malaga is one of our favourite ports! Check back to Nov 24/19 and Dec10/23 for more info.
Malaga is about 2800 years old. It was thought to have been settled by the Phoenicians from Tyre in 770 BC. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Western Europe and is now part of Spain. It has been under several various rulers, including Christian and Muslim.
I should clarify that Gary is the main photographer for this blog. Sometimes he gives me so many great photos it is difficult to choose!
We had about a 35 minute walk from our ship to the old town today, walking down a lovely promenade.

The One Armed Lady is a nickname for the Malaga Cathedral. After working on building the church for about 200 years, the building fund ran out of money and didn’t get the second bell tower completed.

Since there was a marathon last time we were here, today we took time to explore the area a little more.

We determined today to try to find the café from 2019 that we had visited. We thought that it had been turned into a pizza place, but as we continued to explore, we stumbled upon it, the Café Berlin!!

Gary ordered this Spanish coffee from our Swedish server and it was so good that even I drank some! The bottom layer is cold sweetened condensed milk. Gary has been ranking his coffees along the way, and Murray’s Irish coffee from Dublin has just slipped to number two! We have a new winner!!
We continued on our way down the main shopping street called Calle Larios. The city workers were putting up massive Christmas decorations today. It must look fantastic at night!

I peeked inside Le Canasta, a restaurant with takeout as well.

After picking up some Picasso-themed souvenirs (he was born here), we headed to the beach.

We noticed that no one was swimming, but if our friend Al was here, he would have jumped in despite the cold water!

Many young ladies were asking their partners to help them get just the perfect selfie. Perhaps we should take some lessons. 😎

15,000 steps and over four hours later, we were back on the ship for lunch.
One of the Filipino staff members came up to me at our table and asked if I was a secret lover. I was a bit taken aback at her forwardness until I realized that she was trying to sell me tickets to a “Seafood” lover’s feast. Gary and I had a good chuckle over that!
Our next port is the tiny nation of Gibraltar. Stay tuned!
