Day 14 January 30, 2014
We are at the half way point in our trip today. Gary and I were wondering how we would be doing spending this much time together! So far, so good!! π
We decided to venture out to find breakfast again this morning. Our hotel is right on a horse racing track, so we walked around it and found a bakery that sold egg baskets. Put a couple of slices of ham in a muffin tin, add two unscrambled eggs, cheese, and diced tomatoes, and bake it in the oven. It was quite good. We also came upon a fruit stand where I was in my glory: we purchased cherries, strawberries, peaches, tangelos, kiwi fruit, and bananas.
Our touristy activity for the day was visiting the Te Puia Center. It is a place of Maori culture and home to the Pohutu Geyser, one of the largest in the area.
We spent a few hours hiking around the property and taking in the guided tour. I loved watching the mud pools bubbling…
The geyser spouts about 20 times a day and gave us a good show.
We enjoyed some NZ ice cream: passion fruit and “hokey pokey”, a mixture of vanilla and toffee bits.
After resting our feet back at the hotel, we headed downtown for dinner. There were numerous eateries to choose from, and so we finally decided on the Jazzery pub and enjoyed a Po Boy sandwich while sitting outside and listening to the music of a jazzy saxophone. It happened to be Thursday night market as well, so we enjoyed sampling desserts from some of the vendors. After a walk down the pier, we headed back to the hotel for the night.
Verse of the day:
Proverbs 14:12
βThere is a way that seems right to a man (or woman),
but its end is the way to death.” ESV
