Corfu, Greece

November 3/25

We enjoyed our day at sea yesterday, and this morning we arrived in Corfu. This lush, green island that is home to just under 100,000 people had been under Venetian, French, and British rule before joining Greece in 1864.

We set out on foot to explore Corfu town.

There were two fortresses to explore. The old fortress was built on the site of a Byzantine castle to protect against invasion from the Ottomans.

The new fortress was built by the Venetians around 1576.

We wandered into a fishing store called Sea World and met a delightful brother and sister that work in the store their mother started years ago. The sister was just home for a visit from the UK. We traded fish stories and told them about life in Valleyview, inviting them to come for a visit!

Of course we found a coffee and pastry to keep our energy going. This croissant was filled with a vanilla custard.

Delicious

The pleasant sounds of a classical guitarist lured us into the People’s Garden, so we sat and enjoyed the mini concert before heading back to the ship.

Once back on board, we continued to relax and enjoy the hot tub, good food, and good music.
