Delicious candy coated nuts from the city market

We were up early again as we had a 35 minute walk to meet our tour bus by 8:15.

Corinth canal

Our first stop was the Corinth canal which connects the Ionian Sea to the Agean Sea. It was initially attempted in 67 AD and completed in 1893. Our tour guide told us that before the canal was finished, boats would be taken overland to the other side.

Corinth Temple of Zeus

We finally arrived in Corinth and had 2 1/2 hours to explore.

BEMA or Judgement seat

The Apostle Paul lived in Corinth for 1 1/2 to 2 years. Acts 18:1-18 describe his time there. The above judgement seat is referred to in those verses.

After our tour of Corinth, we headed 600 m up the mountain to the Acrocorinth, the site of the ancient Temple of Aphrodite and a fortress. The Corinthians used to walk up to worship there. Phew!!

Back down the mountain we went to the ancient port of Cenchrea. Acts 18:18 tells us that Paul had a haircut here before sailing to Ephesus on his way to Syria.

It took a while to get back to Athens during a Friday afternoon rush-hour, but we rewarded ourselves with some baklava and another layered pastry dessert upon our return.

Delicious!!

Tonight we pack up and tomorrow we board our ship, the Holland America Nieuw Statendam for 28 days. Sunday we will be at sea, and then our first stop will be Corfu, Greece on Monday, November 3rd. We will catch up with you then. 😊
