Funchal, Madeira, Portugal

This is our second time here, so feel free to look up our previous blog post from November 27, 2019 for more information on the island.

The threat of rain was hanging over us today, so we headed ashore early and did some exploring. We were treated to an unexpected surprise, a Christmas market, which is very common in Europe.

There were beautiful decorations.

There were several decorated booths set up where vendors sold their wares. Sometimes they have musicians performing as well.

We continued exploring and found a shop where they gave out samples of their famous Madeira wine.

Of course coffee and pastries were also located and consumed.

Phyllo pastry with ermine frosting. So tasty!!

We wandered through some beautiful parks which were located right in the city.

There were several tiny reptiles along the walls.

After climbing to the peak of one of the parks, we rewarded ourselves with gelato and a Portuguese custard tart at the nearby cafe.

Gary took time to capture a few shots.

We should be heading out to sea any minute for our 7 day voyage across the Atlantic to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. We plan to fly home Dec 21st. I might create a post if there is something interesting to report. Otherwise, Merry Christmas to all.
