Barcelona

Gary and I have started another adventure.

We’re taking advantage of a discounted cruise from Barcelona to Miami, and so we started our journey from Grande Prairie on Tuesday, November 19. After experiencing several flight delays because of snow in Calgary, we finally made it to Barcelona after missing our connecting flight in Toronto. We were rerouted to London, England, and we arrived on Wednesday the 20th, 24 hours later. Gary’s bag did not arrive with us, but it had been located and we rejoiced to see it delivered this evening.

Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia which is an autonomous part of north eastern Spain. Today we enjoyed seeing the city on the hop on hop off bus tour. It was rather chilly, so we bundled up so that we could sit on the upper deck and get a better view. Here are a few of the sights from today.

Tim Horton’s

Arc De Triomf

The Agbar Tower office building

There are no more bull fights in Barcelona (animal cruelty), so they have converted the bullfighting arena into a market with many shops.

Gaudi was a famous Spanish architect who left his mark in Barcelona. His Catalan modernist style can be seen throughout the city, but his Sagrada Família church is his most well known. He died before it was completed, and they are still working on it, over 100 years later.

Here is a clip of our ride! 🙂

Of course we have been enjoying some food:

Local meats and cheese

This is toasted bread, and they squash a very ripe tomato on it! It is common to this area, and I enjoyed some at breakfast as well!

Move over Tim Horton’s! The Boldu pastry shop makes this donut covered in chocolate and stuffed with chocolate! So good!

Tomorrow we head to our cruise ship, the Norwegian Star, so I will update you when I am able!
