We enjoyed a delicious breakfast at our B and B this morning. The smell of freshly baked croissants (some filled with chocolate) was heavenly!!
Today we tackled the hike know as Cinque Terre: a hike between 5 very tiny but beautiful fishing villages on the coast of the Ligurian sea. We bought a hiking permit which included train travel for the day as well as free use of the bathroom and Wifi at the train station!!🙂. A free bathroom is a big deal in Europe.
Our first village was Monterosso: it had a gorgeous beach that we took time to wander.

We headed to Vernazza and I was reminded how out of shape I am. 😞
This trail reminded me of the Inca trail (how many more steps??😩) and the the view reminded me of the Kalalau trail on Kauai, the Napali coastline.

About 90 minutes later we were at Vernazza and enjoyed the beauty of this little town.

After a much needed gelato break, we were back on the trail to Corniglia!

We enjoyed a refreshment break and a tour of the local church. From here we took the train to town #5, Riomaggiore, since the trail was closed. I found some neat tiles on display at the train station!

The last trail was also closed, so we took the train back to Manarola, village 4, to have supper and watch the sunset. We enjoyed deep fried squid and fries while sitting at the beach.

Crepes for dessert was a great reward for walking over 19 km and we took the train back to Levanto for the night!
