Hilton Head Island

Day 8

This morning we had a wonderful visit with my cousin, Don, and his wife of 31 years, Linda.  They have a busy household with the fairly recent addition of 3 foster siblings which they have adopted.  Bless you two for your selflessness as you pour your lives into these precious children!  And bless your four older children as they share you with them!img_4309

Gary and I headed south to Augusta, Georgia, whose famous Augusta National golf course is home to the PGA Masters Golf Tournament.  I had been researching how we might be able to set foot on this course, but to no avail!  We drove into the driveway and were met by a pleasant security guard who assisted us in promptly vacating the property.  We couldn’t even take a selfie due to their photography restrictions.  😦

We were on the road again, this time looking for some locally grown peaches along the way to Hilton Head Island.  After experiencing a fairly heavy rainstorm, we found fresh, juicy peaches at an Exxon Gas Station with an indoor (and dry) fruit stand.

After checking into the Ramada at Hilton Head, we  headed to Hudson’s, a highly recommended seafood restaurant located right on the water.

As we waited for our table, we spotted a few wildlife.

It was happy hour, so we enjoyed some delicious garlic shrimp at great prices.  Please excuse the bite marks:  once we realized how delicious it was, we needed a photo!

I took Key Lime Pie to go, and we explored the rest of the island in the time remaining before sunset.

Hilton Head Island, also known as a golfer’s paradise, is about 23 miles long, and 12 of those miles have beautiful Atlantic beaches  There were many families enjoying the warm water and powdery white sand, and there are top notch mini golf courses along with many opportunities for shopping.  Gary and I are definitely interested in returning here, despite the 95 degree temperature and 95 percent humidity!!
