Gary and I are off on another adventure! We are heading to a small village in Belize to get a feel for the local culture in this English speaking country in Central America. Formerly known as the British Honduras, Belize is south of Mexico and is boarded by Guatemala on the west and south.
We left Medicine Hat on the evening flight on Thursday January 22, 2015 and overnighted in Calgary. Friday morning we boarded a flight for Houston where we will overnight and catch a flight to Belize on Saturday. Our flight was plagued with problems, however! Our plane was found to be leaking hydraulic fluid in the brakes, so after assessing the situation, our plane was grounded. Thankfully, another plane was available and we disembarked plane number one and were loaded onto plane number 2. This plane had an electrical issue, so the electrical system had to be rebooted. The plane was eerily quiet as we sat in the dark for two minutes. However, this procedure failed, and we had to wait for a part to be replaced. We finally took off three hours late and arrived safely in Houston. We were met with very cold weather. Locals were wearing winter coats, and so I bundled up as best I could as we headed to our hotel for the evening. After a supper of Mexican food and a bit of shopping, we slept to the sounds of traffic on highway 59 and the temperature dipped to 1 degree Celsius.
