Our day started off with a bit of discomfort. We had tripped the safety valve on the water system last night by using too much water for too long, and I realized that I was missing my credit card. Evidently it was still in Harlem at Sylvia’s Diner, and they took good care of it while the 8 of us made a detour to go and pick it up after our “super ” turned our water back on.
Next stop: financial district. We joined thousands of others who made their way to the 9-11 memorial. There is a large pool on the site of each of the towers, and the names of those who lost their lives can be found inscribed at the edges of each pool. St Paul’s chapel was a highlight for me as we were able to read about how the church members housed and cared for many of the volunteers who helped in the rescue and recovery mission after the attack.
A walk down the Wall Street area took us to the stock exchange and then to see the famous statue of the bull which represents aggressive financial optimism.
Dunkin Donuts was our snack, and then we re-boarded the subway for our next adventure: Barney’s warehouse sale.
Barney’s is not the home of a purple dinosaur, but is a department store that sells very expensive clothing. We found the secure location and went inside for a peek. The most affordable thing we could find was a pair of ladies shorts that literally had paint painted onto them for less than $60. There were also a few Vera Wang wedding dresses for less than $2000. At least we can say that we shopped in New York! Lol!
We also enjoyed some entertainment by street performers.
We had Broadway tickets for tonight, so we came back to home base to dress up and then found some Mexican food for supper at the Chipotle Grill on our way. Tonight’s show was If/Then with Idina Menzel and we were not disappointed. We stood in line outside the Richard Rodgers theater afterwards and the girls were able to get some autographs and photos. Keanna was beaming as she got to meet James Snyder, the lead male role.
“Insomnia Cookies” delivers warm cookies until 3 am, but we stopped in instead to get fresh ones after 1 am. Delicious!!! It was a late night, but well worth it.
