Happy Birthday to Gary!
Gary bought New York bagels for breakfast in various flavors topped with various cream cheeses. We headed out to the Bronx and met some awesome women, whom we took a group picture with (they were pleased to have a picture with Canadians for their Facebook page). We have met so many wonderful people here, especially on the subway.
The New York Yankees played the Houston Astros at 1:05, and we scored 8 tickets in the nosebleed section. It was sunny and hot, and we enjoyed Nathan’s famous extra long hot dogs while we watched the Yankees win 3-0.
Supper in Harlem was next on our to-do list. We ate at Sylvia’s Diner, which served soul food. Fried chicken with waffles and various other side dishes were devoured. The candied yams were delicious!!! Gary received a black gospel “Happy Birthday” from the staff, and we really enjoyed our time there.
Next we went back to the subway where we headed to “The Top of the Rock” at the Rockefeller Center. We were able to enjoy the New York Skyline during daylight as well as at night when the skyscrapers are lit up.
A lightening show caused the 70th floor to be cleared and we headed back to the condo. Keanna has been serving up cheese platters every evening which we have been enjoying with various beverages.
We enjoyed embarrassing Gary today several times as we spontaneously burst out in song. We sang Happy Birthday twice on the subway, once at the Yankee game in the stands, at supper, in the elevator speeding up to the observation deck, and in the queue as we waited to head down the tower. Several people joined in on the last song! I think he will remember this birthday for a long time!
